Tufts University Students - Usernames and
Passwords:
Click on the "User Login" button on the left to access
the login dialogue box.
Your Blackboard login (username) is your last name plus the last 4 digits
of your Student ID# with NO SPACES OR DASHES. (Example: soprano3217)
If you have two last names or a hyphenated last name your username is BOTH last names plus the last 4 digits of your Student ID# with NO DASHES OR SPACES. (Example: garciavasquez3177)
Your password is your Student ID# with NO SPACES OR DASHES. (Example: 991363217)
Blackboard DOES NOT use any part of your Social Security Number for either your username or password.
After login your Blackboard Home page will be displayed on your screen.
Links to all of your Blackboard course sites are located under "My
Courses".
Note: Not all instructors use Blackboard course sites.
Guest Access:
Many instructors have made their Blackboard course sites available to
guests.
Click on the "Course Catalog" button on the left. This will
display the Blackboard Course Catalog. Click on any of the Course Catalog
Area buttons, then locate the Department and Instructor for the course.
If the site is guest accessible, the course ID will be an underlined link
to the course site. As an alternative, you can use the search function
to locate a particular course.
Guests are not able to view the Communications, Discussion Board or Tools
areas of any course site
E-Mail Address / Password Change:
Check your e-mail address by clicking on the "Personal Information"
link located in the "Tools" box on the left side of your Blackboard
Homepage. You can check and change your e-mail address under "Edit
Personal Information". You may also change your password under "Change
Password". Changing your password or e-mail address on one site will
change it for all of your sites.
New in Blackboard Version 7:
- Announcements can now be automatically sent as e-mails to course site
members. (See control panel / announcements / add announcement / email
announcement)
- Discussion Boards now allow user subscriptions. Subscribing to a forum
will result in an e-mail sent to you when a new item is added to the forum.
- Discussion Board now allows replies to include a quote from another
post.

If you are having problems accessing your Blackboard course site click
here to contact the Tufts University Blackboard Administrator.
Please provide your name and Student ID# and e-mail address.
Instructor and TA - FAQ:
To manually add a student account to your course site:
Go to the control panel – click on “enroll user”.
Type in the last name of the student you wish to add then click on “Search”.
This will display all of the users in the Blackboard database with that
last name.
Checkmark the box to the left of the student’s account you wish
to add.
Click on the “submit” button on the bottom of the page.
Note: You cannot add an account already listed on the course site. The
name will not appear. Make sure you check the accounts on the course site
following the directions below.
To add a TA or Instructor to your course site:
First follow the procedure outlined above for adding a student account
to your course site. Once the student account is added to the site go
to Control Panel /List/Modify Users, type in the student’s last
name and click on the “Search” button. Click on the “Properties”
button next to the student account you want to have TA or instructor access
to the site. Under “Role and Availability” change the role
status from Student to Teaching Assistant or Instructor then click on
“Submit”.
To see the accounts listed on your course site:
Go to Control Panel /List/Modify Users. Click on the “search”
button (without typing in any name in the box). This will display all
of the accounts listed on your course site. If your course site has more
than 25 accounts there will be links to successive pages in the bottom
left of the display.
To remove a single account from your course site:
Go to Control Panel / Remove Users from the Course. Type in the person’s
last name, then click on “search”. Checkmark the box next
to the account you wish to remove, type “Yes” in the dialogue
box and then click on “submit”. The account will be removed
from the course site.
To remove multiple accounts from your course site:
Go to Control Panel / Remove Users from the Course. Click on the “search”
button (without typing in any name in the box). This will display all
of the accounts listed on your course site. Checkmark the box next
to the accounts you wish to remove, type “Yes” in the dialogue
box and then click on “submit”. The accounts will be removed
from the course site.
To remove all of the student accounts from your course site:
Go to Control Panel / Recycle Course. Checkmark the “Users”
box, type “Remove” in the dialogue
box and then click on “submit”. This will remove all of the student accounts (but not the Instructor or TA accounts) from the course site. Note: Removing an account from the course site will delete any gradebook,
quiz, survey or assignment information connected with that account.

UIT Academic Technology is currently hosting a limited
pilot program for Tufts University instructors and students employing
Moodle Open Source Course Management System.
To Preview a Moodle Course Site:
- Click on the Moodle Pilot logo image above.
- Click on "Login as a Guest".
- Click on any of the Guest Accessible Moodle course sites.
